Thanks Lori! Chimney Island is a true icon on the St. Lawrence River. I was amazed even more by the glacial perspective you discover when actually standing on that smooth rock surface.

Artist's Description

Chimney Island lies in the 1000 Islands region of Southern Ontario, Canada. It gets it's name from the distinctive structure that adournes the windswept rock, standing boldly against the skyline. The current structure is actually the third chimney to be erected on this island. The first was built against a trapper's cabin in the late 1700's. That cabin burned and the french settler was murdered - a mystery that has never been solved. The second chimney was part of a British blockhouse fort, built during the War of 1812 to defend vital supply routes through the islands. A summer resident from a nearby island built the present chimney from the rubble of the first two because a chimney seemed so much a part of this glacier carved island.

About Richard De Wolfe

Richard De Wolfe

The Thousand Islands region of Ontario, Canada, was the perfect backdrop for a childhood filled with adventure for Richard De Wolfe, an artist who still identifies strongly with rural life. The forests, fields, and of course the mighty St. Lawrence River, made the wonders of nature come alive for him. The art of Richard De Wolfe has been very popular ever since his first one-man show at the age of eighteen. That show was a sell out, supplying him with commissions for many months after. He went on to spend twenty-five years as an illustrator, producing paintings for national and international corporations such as General Motors, Pepsi-Cola, and Sony. “I believe that working as an illustrator was the best training I could possibly...
