The Blue-Winged Teal is a small, shy duck that inhabits ponds, marshes and small, protected bays. They fly very rapidly in small, tight flocks when they migrate. Both the male (in foreground) and the female (in background) have the soft blue area on the forward part of their wing. The male has a white facial crescent.

The Thousand Islands region of Ontario, Canada, was the perfect backdrop for a childhood filled with adventure for Richard De Wolfe, an artist who still identifies strongly with rural life.
